Stop Wasting Your Time And Money Trying Deadbeat Ideas To Get Customers

You have a great home business product or service and you know it could be making money but instead of getting customers, you’re wasting time trying to figure out what marketing strategy will work.

You try something new, but nothing happens. Maybe you hold a special event, send coupons to everyone on your list, or give away free stuff to get them in the door.

But it doesn’t work!

Nobody shows up to buy what you’re selling.

Frustrating!

There’s so much information out there on what to do first and what to do next, but most of it is years ahead of where you are right now so it’s not what you NEED.

Instead, we busy ourselves doing what we can.

We fix up our website, order a bunch of pretty office supplies and created automated systems when we haven’t even figured out if something is even going to work.

We Google, we follow the big names we admire and we go through dozens of webinars hoping that someone, somewhere will have that one final missing piece of the puzzle.  And once we have that .. well, everything just falls into place.

I call it spaghetti marketing.  It’s time-consuming, expensive, frustrating, and JUST DOESN’T WORK.

But there is hope. Small home businesses CAN grow their customer base while building relationships that last longer than just one “special” event, webinar or lame marketing attempt.

Stop wasting your time and money on marketing schemes that don’t work.

Instead, create a unique selling proposition that sets your home business apart from the competition.

If you get nothing else from this training, please hear this.

YOU. CANNOT. BE. DUPLICATED.

So why not start there?  You can be that.

Or you can do what the rest of the world is doing now and just struggle to survive. Which would you prefer?

I live in a small town.  We have at least 8 pizza joints.  There’s 4 that have pizza’s that I really love eating but there’s only 2 places I’ll ever order from and if I had to make a final decision, I know hands down which one I’d choose.

What sets that one place apart from the 3 other restaurants I love?

No matter what day it is, what time it is or how busy they are when I walk in the door, EVERYONE looks up at me, smiles and talks to me like I’m family.

They’re not just polite and friendly.  They’re kind and caring.

I feel like I’m walking into Cheers.  (Hopefully you’re old enough to get that reference :/)

They’re a franchise pizza place competing with at least 7 other places in town and 3 other of my favourite pizzas on the planet.

But they get my business every single time because of who they are.

Think about that.

Stop wasting your time on social media for the sake of having a “social media marketing plan”.

Use social media to reach out to potential customers.

I’ve had friends, family and clients desperate to make their home business work so they throw up Facebook business pages, groups and start creating these really pretty graphics that they diligently spend hours scheduling to go out onto their platforms.

It’s not uncommon.  It’s the first thing that anybody does when they start their business or decide it’s time to get online or get serious.

They have a plan.

Do you know WHY they choose social media as step one?  Because it’s E-A-S-Y.

You don’t have to know anything about building websites, you don’t have to think of a solid marketing plan.

As long as they are doing something work related, they feel good about finally prioritizing themselves and their business.

If you have no customers, family and friends wonder what you’re doing with your time.  But now … now you’re working your plan.

But, my love, your plan is about to tank hard.

Yes, set up social media.

Yes, use it.

But use it the right way.

A few weeks ago, I taught you about the Social Media Trifecta.  Showing up consistently and authentically, having content that your AUDIENCE wants to see, and feeding that platform.

It doesn’t matter if you started a home business yesterday or you’re the CEO of a Fortune 500.  Humans all work the same.

Remember the basics?  I don’t go on Facebook to find something to buy, I go on to connect with people and businesses I want to hear from.  On Instagram, I want to see pretty things.  On Pinterest, I want ideas and tutorials.

It’s a great place to increase your organic reach, help customers find you and connect with them – but it can’t be the reason you keep busy.

Stop wasting your money on advertising.

Invest in quality content that will engage and educate your audience.

Don’t get squirrely on me.  I love advertising and there’s a time and a place for paid promotions.  The beginning is NOT one of those times. This is especially true if you have a home business because there are rules and guidelines that you have to follow – not only for the companies you represent, but in Facebook ad rules too.

Putting dollars behind anything you’re doing is going to amplify what’s happening.  But it doesn’t discriminate.  If nothing is happening now (or worse, things are badly broken), it will amplify that.

Think for a second.  Do you want more of what you already have happening?  If the answer is YES, then go ahead and start advertising.

What you need to do now is work on creating content that matters to your audience and delivering it in a way they want it on a platform they want it on.

If you’re stuck on ideas, there’s no better way to get into the hearts of people than by being entertaining or teaching them something they didn’t know.  It’s like cat videos, but for businesses.

You can try to test your ideas in your email list.

Let’s say you have an idea for an ad but you’re afraid to put your money where your mouth is.  Turn it into an A/B split test and send it out to your email list.  You’ll know your winning headline by the number of opens and the winning copy can be found through your click-through rate.  (careful, this is deceiving with iOS changes)

Don’t have an email list yet? Try it on your social platforms.  If you have a post on your platform that gets a lot of engagement, try turning that into an ad.

The idea is to start slow.  We can’t get caught up in the busyness of everything and forget that business and marketing take time.

Stop wasting your energy trying to please everyone and chasing customers who are never going to buy from you.

Identify your target market and focus your efforts there.

I can’t tell you the number of times that I’ve had to say this phrase to my clients because they were so caught up worrying that someone would steal their PDF and distribute it or that they’d share their login details to a course.

The extra mental and physical work that I had to put in to come up with ideas and workarounds for almost every situation that could happen was ridiculous.

Nope, I don’t condone theft.

Yes, you should mitigate it as much as possible.

But the people who steal your stuff, the people who ask someone just to share their course login with them instead of buying it …

THEY WERE NEVER GOING TO BUY FROM YOU ANYWAY.

It’s an energy and mindset shift.

Is it wrong and unethical to steal my shit? Yes.

If someone is willing to steal from me, they were never planning on buying in the first place.  So long Felicia.  All of your focus and energy needs to be on helping the right people.

Start focusing on what works and scale it up.

Celebrate your successes and learn from your failures.

I had to end with this one because so many people completely miss the boat.  MYSELF INCLUDED.

A few years back, I decided to put $500 into an ad campaign for my Brand Soldiers webinar.  It was the first time I had ever spent more than a few bucks here and there on advertising.  Back then, I ran engagement ads for a dollar a day (which worked great!)

I ended up with 10 registrations.  Not a single person showed up live.  I completely screwed up my screen sharing so the entire presentation was fucked up.  One person watched the replay.  That one person bought a $1500 course.

But I was devastated.  I had blown all this money and spent hours building web pages and automations and follow-up sequences for nothing.

(in case you haven’t noticed yet, I’ve made ALLLL the mistakes)

If I could have stopped focusing on the failure (I wanted more signups, actual live attendants and more sales), I could have celebrated the success.

It may not have been to the scale I wanted it to happen, but it WORKED.

If you gave me $500 and then I handed you $1500, would you be happy?  Of course you would.  And you’d do that all day every day.

But instead, I did what all of you are going to do too.  I stopped running the ads and stopped running the webinar. Part of it was feeling like it failed, but looking back, it was really because I had conquered that and was ready to move to the next thing because I needed something to keep me busy now that I had the system in place.

Learn from my mistakes.  Do more of what works and forget the stuff that didn’t.

The only way to succeed in this online world, especially with a home business, is by working smarter (not just keeping busy). The more you know your audience, the more you can engage with them and the more they’ll engage back.  You can’t do that if you’re always Googling and trying new things, hoping one of them will work for you.

That’s where the Incite + Velocity Entrepreneur’s Vault comes in.  And it’s completely free.

It’s the place for home business owners like yourself who are sick of just being busy, wasting time on marketing that doesn’t work, using social media just for the sake of having a “social media marketing plan”, and trying to figure out paid advertising that doesn’t provide an ROI.

It’s a massive resource library with video training courses, worksheets, templates, cheat sheets and more to help you identify your target market, learn how to create engaging content, and have the resources you need at your fingertips.

It’s time to stop throwing ourselves at the feet of customers and trying to figure out a new marketing idea every week just because it worked for someone else before us.
